Book Review: A Prince On Paper

Title: A Prince On Paper (Reluctant Royals #3)
Author: Alyssa Cole
Rating: 🍵🍵🍵🍵🍵

The Reluctant Royals series returns with a good girl searching for the life that’s not too big, and not too small, and the bad boy prince who might be just right for her…
Nya Jerami fled Thesolo for the glitz and glamour of NYC but discovered that her Prince Charming only exists in her virtual dating games. When Nya returns home for a royal wedding, she accidentally finds herself up close and personal—in bed—with the real-life celebrity prince who she loves to hate.
For Johan von Braustein, the red-headed step-prince of Liechtienbourg, acting as paparazzi bait is a ruse that protects his brother—the heir to the throne—and his own heart. When a royal referendum threatens his brother’s future, a fake engagement is the perfect way to keep the cameras on him.
Nya and Johan both have good reasons to avoid love, but as desires are laid bare behind palace doors, they must decide if their fake romance will lead to a happily-ever-after.
I’m trying to collect myself from a puddle of giggles that I’ve dissolved into after reading A PRINCE ON PAPER. It might take a while.
This book was really everything. I had seen Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royals series in all of its beautiful matching covers splendor on twitter, and added the first two books to a growing TBR pile that will devour me someday. But then I read the description for A PRINCE ON PAPER and it was like every single box ticking for me.
âś“ Shy Girl, Hot Boy
✓ Redhead (I’m shallow, I’m shallow)
âś“ Nerdiness
âś“ Otome games? Omg
âś“ Fake relationships
The premise got me, and let me tell you that Alyssa Cole absolutely fucking delivered. A PRINCE ON PAPER was compulsively readable, sweet, sexy, and honest. This book somehow managed the most perfect balancing job of emotions as Nya and Johan were pulled in fifty directions at once--friends, family, duty, each other. Their struggles were so real, so earnest, that you couldn’t help but be pulled along with them.
Speaking of main characters, these two had my heart (and probably whatever other organs they wanted from me) form the beginning. Nya is a woman coming into her own, acting despite inexperience and fear, and trying to show the world and herself that she can handle herself. Johan is a somewhat-royal pretending to know his place in a world that told him he had to be something he was not.
I loved them. I loved them so much. And watching Nya find her match in Johan (A TRUE MARSHMALLOW) was truly, fully delightful. Just keep a fan or three ACs nearby while reading..
I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this book. It was perfect.
The main characters were so amazing that I wanted to scream, the supporting cast was loving care wrapped in a riot, and the drama was precise. Alyssa Cole does not waste a single word in easy conflict or frustrating miscommunications. She writes her story with realness and heart, despite many turning points in which she could have taken the simpler route, and her dedication pays off.
A PRINCE ON PAPER is a must read for every Romance fan, or anyone with a heart.
